Villa Salviati

It was built at the beginning of 1900 by Duke Don Pietro Salviati; this “villa” was also used for summer holidays. The Salviatis arrived in Abetone with a host of servants (drivers and waiters); around the “villa” they built the first tennis court in the entire Pistoia mountains and many boys from the villages went to collect the balls for a few cents; near the tennis court, horses were also brought for the nobles to ride in the woods. Two inhabitants of Boscolungo, cousins among them, worked at Villa Salviati as cooks: Alberto Fernando Zanni, known as Nando, and Ettore Zanni, grandfather of Silvio Zanni, a well-known current restaurateur in the Pistoia mountains. Ettore won a prestigious International Cuisine Award for desserts, building a castle populated by various characters, using chocolate, marzipan and candy floss. This “villa” was used until the end of the Second World War; then it became a residential complex and continues to be a destination for Italian and foreign nobles (the Della Gherardescas, S.Fergusson, and others). Donna Immacolata's family has only one apartment left, still used today by her grandchildren, both in winter and summer. Via Brennero (formerly Via Ximenes), 217 51021 Abetone
