Rivoreta Fountain

From Pianosinatico, leaving the main road and going down the fork on the right, after a few kilometers you reach Rivoreta. A small village that boasts ancient origins, in fact there are those who hope it derives from the Romans, what is certain is that it is located along one of the oldest mule tracks that allowed travelers to reach Modena from Cutigliano; a road artery frequented since the Middle Ages, still passable on foot today, which was of considerable importance for centuries, before being supplanted by the opening of the Ximenes - Giardini road, which led to the exclusion of Rivoreta from the great communication. Today the village is renowned above all for the museum it houses: "Museo della gente dell'Appennino Pistoiese", the centerpiece of one of the itineraries of the Ecomuseo della Montagna Pistoiese. It is precisely by going beyond the unmistakable outline of the museum structure that we find, going up to the village square, this simple but beautiful fountain. It consists of a wall facing with quadrangular blocks on which the monolithic stone basin is placed, supported by a small base. Water flows from two bronze spouts, probably coming from two different sources, since, as can be read on the plates applied respectively near these, one is drinkable water, the other is not. On one of the stone blocks constituting the facing, the date of the probable construction is engraved: 1894. It is likely to believe that it was built to complete the restoration work that affected the church in 1892, and a more general reorganization of the square. Recently (2005), on the occasion of the restoration work of the wash well behind, the fountain underwent maintenance work of cleaning and plastering, appearing today well preserved and untouched by time.
