Fontana di Campotizzoro

Coming from Pistoia, immediately after Pontepetri, we reach Campotizzoro: an unusual town for the area, with a “modern” urban fabric characterized by industrial-type architecture. In fact, it owes its birth to the existence of the Società Metallurgica Italiana, since all aspects of its life and development are linked to the events of the SMI (which has now closed its doors). From the creation of the first industrial warehouses at the beginning of the twentieth century, in fact, the town gradually took shape, in a subordinate manner to the factory. Thus the first workers' houses were born, the village intended for managers and employees, a school, a nursery and many other accessory structures. Finally, with the outbreak of the Second World War, when the need for spiritual assistance became stronger, the construction of a sacred building was begun. The church of S. Barbara stands on a hill from where it dominates the surrounding landscape, clearly visible from the road, with its dichromatic mass with horizontal bands. Going up to the square where the church stands, we will find, just arrived on the right, near the rectory, this fountain: leaning against the wall, punctuated by five vertical monolithic pieces that rise on a double elliptical base, one of which constitutes the basin, which thus remains at ground level. The fountain dates back to the construction period of the church, that is, 1940. Locality Campotizzoro
