Fontana della Banchina

Fontana della Banchina

And how can we not mention the latest creation in the area... arriving in Maresca, this fountain will not go unnoticed, headed by a beautiful sculpture in the round, behind which there is an unmistakable architecture, typical of what were the stations of the FAP (which stands for Ferrovia Alto Pistoiese). One of the last stations of the historic train that had not yet had another destination, which was in a state of degradation, was in fact that of Maresca, which in 2001 was acquired by the Banca di Credito Cooperativo della Montagna Pistoiese, with the desire to recover the building and create its own headquarters and management there. Thus in 2005 the structure saw a new light, becoming the new headquarters of the "Banchina" (former rural bank), the Maresca branch of the BCC. On this occasion, to complement the new structure, this fountain was created in front of a brick wall with the bank's logo, conceived as a large circular concrete basin, within which a large boulder supports the figure of a woman pouring water from her jug. At the base of the basin runs a ribbon bearing in relief the verse of St. Francis of Assisi "Per sor Acqua, utile e umile e preziosi e casta", a true eulogy to water. The bronze sculpture depicting a young mountain woman from another time, a symbol of women's work and its importance in the mountain economy and culture, the work of Giuseppe Bartolozzi and Clara Tesi, was created with the ancient lost-wax technique.
