Sacred Art and Popular Religiosity Route

Pievano Girolamo Magni informs us in his "book of memories" (1549-1601) that the Pieve di Popiglio (Municipality of Piteglio) was enriched over the course of the century with precious works of art, donated as votive offerings by a family from Popiglio living in Rome, the Vanninis. Thanks to them, the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta now exhibits rare examples of Roman Baroque in the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art of Popiglio, while in the adjacent Compagnia del SS. Sacramento, vestments and sacred furnishings from the churches of the Pistoia mountains are exhibited. Near the Pieve stands the Convent of the Sisters of San Francesco and Domenico, founded in the 16th century. From the church square, a paved path leads to the museum's educational center (set up in a historic building that also houses the "Mascagni" Theater), where various activities can be carried out, such as weaving. From the town of Popiglio, various devotional paths branch off, such as the one that leads to the medieval Castruccio Castracani Bridge, over the Lima stream.
